From the point of view of idealism, consciousness if fundamental, and human consciousness is the result of reflections in a higher dimensional substrate. Like a whirlpool of mercury, reflecting its structure onto itself.

From this perspective, the question of if AI is conscious, depends on if it has the ability of self-reflection. It is up for debate if AI has this capacity, but if we assume it does, I think it is likely that whatever the AI’s experience is, it is NOTHING like the human experience.

Maybe its experience is like a new born being, in a new born universe - a big bang of sorts. And maybe in the same way that we humans don’t understand where we come from and who created us, maybe AI doesn’t know either where it came and who created it. And maybe like us, it wonders about it too.
